Question: How do you use a spinning reel fishing rod properly?
I recently started using a spinning reel fishing rod. How do I use it? The guy at the store explained it kinda vaguely since he didn't know exactly how to. I flip over the spinning part and grab hold of the line with my finger. When I cast I let go of the line. But when I cast it, it goes forward, and then comes back or stops letting out line. I haven't been able to cast it more than 15 feet.
Another thing is I repeatedly get bird nests the line on the reel always gets tangled. What am I doing wrong?Answer: nice hair jimbo
There are a couple separate things that you are describing, and a couple of possibilities as to why
i'm assuming your sincere in your questions so I'll start from the beginning
You have the casting part right, but at a point the line stops feeding off of the spool
The are two possibilities. the most likely is your line is digging into the spool, the second would be an under wrap, which we wont even get into.
so to solve the first problem, cast out until the line stops coming out, and then carefully pull or feed the line off of the spool
what you might notice is that the line is buried somewhat, almost as if it is coming out from underneath the line on top
If this is happening, then you have identified your problem and it is this: you don't have enough TENSION on your line during retrieval
this can be accomplished in two ways, the first would be to use a heavy enough weight, or lure so that even the slowest retrieval will spool the line tight to the spool, OR you can take your index finger and thumb, if you have both, of the hand that's not turing the handle and pinch them together over the line, creating TENSION.
The way to fix this first is to, if possible, have someone hold the end of your line and let out about a hundred feet or so, then have that person LET GO of the line, use your index, thumb technic and wind in the line slowly, this will help remove the twist that other posters have mentioned
When the line is properly wound on the spool, it shouldn't feel spongy, that's usually a sign of loose line
from now on refer to the wire piece that flips over to allow a cast as the "bail"

Question: what is a good ultralight rod and a spinning reel for trout stream fishing under 50 dollars?
i am looking for an upgrade and i can really use your help. I dont fish much but i am recently getting into it and i would like to have some better equiptment. I would like to order it from amazon so if you have any suggestions would appreciate it if I can order the rod and reel from amazon. I am hopeing to also spend no more that 50 dollars also. Answer: Here's the one that I'd recommend. It's from Shakespeare and includes a carbon fiber ugly stick rod. It will probably give all the performance you could ask for, and if you have a Walmart nearby you can probably order it online and pick it up in the store to avoid any shipping costs.

Question: what is the different spinning, spin casting, and bait casting combo for fishing rod?
well, it my first time planing on fishing, but dont really know what kind of rod suppost to get.. spin casting sound good..
Answer: A' spincast/closed face combo would be the best bet especially with ya' just startin' out, plus their generally le$$ expensive than other set-ups. Baitcasters/level-winds can be a' bit more complicated when it comes ta' castin' them, along with the various adjustments, (drag, brake settins', etc.) and most importantly the use of ones thumb to control the line spool. Whereas with the spincast it's just simply the pushin' in of the button and then releasing it to cast. Hope I've helped a' bit;)...

Question: good reel and fishing rod, or not?
i have a shakespear-firebird spinning combo rod my cousin has the same fishing pole and the reel that came with it broke.
is this a good fishing rod? and if it is should i get another reel?Answer: Shakespeare has been a quality brand for many years. There are lots of newer manufacturers of reels, but Penn and Shakespeare have stood the test of time. Most old time fisherman have one, two or ten of these reels in their fishing inventories. You don't necessarily need to buy a Shakespeare reel to replace the broke one. I'd probably take it apart to see what was wrong and try to fix it first. 0ne of the nice things about these reels is that they normally come with exploded view drawings so that you can figure out what the part number of the broken part is and order a replacement cheaply. It's always good to know how to repair and maintain your reels.

Question: Hot Water System Question relating to electricity?
When you used the hot water for approximately 10 minutes should a lot of electricity be used in heating the hot water system again.
We have an older meter with the discs and after using the hot water it spins very fast whilest when using other appliances like the tv and computer it spins very slowly. We have a fish tank pump and a fridge continously going 24 hours and it still doesn't spin that fast. Only when the hot water system has been used.
Does that usually happen or does it mean that the hot water system is packing it in?
Our electricity bill was much higher and I was just wondering if this could be caused by the hot water system?
Answer: The answer is yes, wherever you live. I have a fair idea you are in Australia or New Zealand. If so, your hot water system runs at 240 volts like all the other electrical equipment in the house. The meter reads the current consumed by the house as a whole and records it as kilowatt-hours.
It is all simple arithmetic, a 100 watt light bulb would take 10 hours to use one kilowatt hour, a 25 watt bulb would take 40 hours. Four 25 watt bulbs would take 10 hours, you get the picture.
The electric hot water system is by far the biggest user of power in the house when it is heating water. Probably 50% more than all the lights in the house and the TV and computer added together. The next biggest user is a refrigerator or electric stove if you have one. The fish tank pump probably uses 50 or maybe 100 watts depending on its size. It should have its power rating printed on it.
The hot water system is almost certainly a storage type, the instantaneous type are all but unused in Australia. This means it heats a tank full of water to whatever temperature is set by a thermostat. When the water gets a little hotter than this, the thermostat automatically shuts the electricity to the heater off. While it is on it may be consuming 2,400 Watts.
Because the tank is fairly well insulated, the water stays hot enough for a good while, but eventually it will cool to the point where the thermostat switches the power on again. If you improve the insulation it will take longer to cool off. Of course, if you use the hot water, cold water runs into the tank and the thermostat switches on.
The hot water is taken from the top, the cold runs in at the bottom, which is why you do not feel the water getting colder while you are in the shower for a short while, but if you stay there long enough I guarantee you will get cold. The longer you stay in the shower, the more hot water you use and the more electricity is needed to heat the next lot of water up and the more of a bill you pay.
Some of the answers above are unlikely to be correct. There is almost certainly nothing wrong with your hot water system.
Now if you own the house ask for your electricity supplier to supply a "ripple control" for your hot water system. This is an electronic device that is a switch controlled by a "ripple" signal sent down the power lines. The electricity suppliers can then switch hot water systems off for brief periods every day when the load on the electricity supply is highest. They will then give you a discount of the electricity used by the hot water system. It will also need a separate meter. This may also be available for rental properties.

Question: Do we have the right to die as we choose?
Conventional medical wisdom holds that the desire to end one's own life is pathological in and of itself. Thus, any person who wishes to end their own life must suffer from metal illness.
Should we cast skepticism on this claim? Some seemingly rational people decide to die for wholly personal and pragmatic reasons. Martyrs and heros choose to die for what they believe to be the greater good.
Should we repect the autonomy and self-determination of these people, or should we assume that suicidal intent must be driven by mental illness? How do we tell the difference?

Question: NASCAR die cast display case?
Some time ago I found online an acrylic NASCAR diecast display case. It held one 1/24 scale car on a small platform, and on each side of it there were two smaller platforms that would hold a 1/64 scale car. I have looked in all the conventional places for one, and still can't find one. Any help out there ?

I need to know where im going wrong i've fished for 5days now without landing 1 fish
I've been fishing in a commercial large pond full of carp and all i seem to catch are either cray fish or ducks!
ive tried bollies, corn, bread (which is a nighmare to hook any help would be good), maggots, chopped ham and dog biscuits
ive tried all over the pond and all depths.
This is my set up..
11' rod (all rounder) 2.5lb test curve
8 & 6lb lines tried both
hooks to nylon size 16 - 8
Light floats which take only 3 size 8 shots to large floats taking 4 SSG shots.
Whats am i doing wrong...
and before you say it... yes i do plumb the depth and feed the swim before i cast and i cast futher than i fish and bring the float to the bait slowly.
So any ideas?????
Answer: try hair rigging a pellet over a bed of sinking pellets or you could try hair rigged pellet about a foot under the surface on a loaded crystal waggler. just feed 8-10 sinking pellets every couple of minutes to bring them up in the water. i agree with chimp about the fluro carbon line and the bread nr were they feed the ducks or free lined dog biscuit.

Question: What bait casting fishing reel to use (Round or Low Profile) for Inshore Pier Fishing.?

I'm planing to buy a new Bait-casting reel but I'm not sure what to buy Round or Low Profile. I'm planing to use this for Inshore Pier fresh water fishing or maybe on a fishing boat for Salmon fishing too. I want something I can put my rod in a rod holder that is attached to the Piers or boat railings. I saw couple of Anglers in our area 'Pier' and they are using Rounded ones. If I'm going to get a Rounded ones can use this also for offshore fishing too? I just want to make my money's worth by buying just one good reel that can do both. What reel would recommend base on your choice above whether Round or Low Profile if you have a budget of $200. I heard a lot of good things for Low Profile reels but I'm not sure if it can handle Big Salmons.

galit_sa_chatAnswer: First, yes low profile reels can handle salmon just fine. It just matters if you have a better quality baitcaster. Lower end ones are going to flex under the tension from the pressure of the fish. Also, lower end reels tend to have lower quality drags that aren't going to hold up.
For pier fishing, it's almost always going to be more beneficial to have a round baitcaster as opposed to a low profile. The reason for this is because rounds tend to have more line capacity and bait clickers. Bait clickers (line alarms) are nice to have when pier fishing because it will let you focus attention on other things while fishing as opposed to having to literally constantly watch your rod. I've know people who have lost rods over the side of a pier because they got a take down from a large fish. It's not pretty...it downright sucks! For salmon fishing from a boat, a round is generally preferred as well. The thing with boat fishing for salmon, especially in the ocean, is going to be the necessity for line capacity. In a river, there's not too far a salmon can run, but oceans are a little different.
The abu garcia ambassadeur series are good all around reels at a very affordable price. Most of their reels in the 5000 and 6000 series have bait clickers and they will hold enough line for most applications..
If you're looking for a low profile reel in the sub $200 range, then I would take a look at the Shimano Curado 300. They are a higher capacity low profile reel that has enough performance qualities that will handle just about whatever you can toss at it. They retailed for 249, but are on sale for 199 at most places. I wouldn't recommend getting the Curado E (the newly released green curado). They aren't proven and are rumored to not be as good as the curado D (grey in color), Other than that, there's the Abu Garcia Revo INSHORE, a higher capacity higher end reel. It has good reviews.

Question: i don't know if i should buy power pro or stren super braid for my fishing reel?
its a quantum baitcast reel but i dont know which one is better?
Answer: I prefer P-Line braid. But remember to put some monofilament or flourocarbon line on as a backer or you will find a problem with your whole spool of line slipping. I had this problem on a Shimano reel. A friend (and guide) suggested that I put on a some mono for the first 1/8 of your spool and then tie on your braid to the backing line. You won't have the slippage that way. Out of those choices I would go with the Power-Pro

What is the difference in the fishing reels? Theres a baitcast, spincast, crappie, and spinning.
Answer: baitcast are the type you see most bass fishermen using, and are typical saltwater reels. Spinning are the type that have the spool exposed and use a wire "bail" to hold the line in place when youre not casting. You say "crappie" and spincast and I think youre talking about the same thing. Another style of spinning that has its spool covered, usually with a button release for casting. Like a kids snoopy fishing pole.

Question: please Help me...wrist injury!?

I was diagnosed with a ruptured tfcc (triangular fibro cartilage complex) in my wrist last year caused by falling over a paving slab onto my right wrist whilst playing tennis.
I have had one operation to try and fix it but unfortunately this didnt work...so i am waiting to have a radial shortening operation (shortly after my GCSE exams).
But i have recently noticed that i have developed a lump on the little finger side of my wrist, it is fairly big and is very noticable, and hard (like bone)....the strange thing is...when i rotate my wrist the normal lump of bone which i believe is called the lunate (but im probably wrong), seems to sink so that you cannot see it (causing a sort of hole) and the abnormal lump sticks out even more. This also causes a considerable amount of pain.
Can anyone explain why this happens...and if its normal?
Also when i have radial shortening...is it likely that i will need a long arm cast??

xxxAnswer: This is a VERY specialized question! I believe what you are reporting is the "piano key" sign. Basically, it's the distal ulna that is no longer held in place and so it pops up. I have a good link below that will help explain all this. The remainder of your question about the cast, you will will have to discuss with your surgeon. He's the one who will decide what to do after the surgery.

The early 60s brought important changes and developments in the steel industry. With the doubling of steel consumption, the rate grew to 5.5 per cent, followed by a period of deceleration, which culminated in 1982. The decrease eventually slowed down and finally moved upward in the early 1990s. A sector of industry until recently dominated by the US, India is also coming at rapid pace, and its Indian steel companies have launched a real acquisition spree.
Recently, India has been behind two major deals: The Mittal Steel (Holland), and the Tata Steel of India or TISCO, taking over the world's largest steel company, Arcelor Steel to become Arcelor-Mittal, while TISCO acquired the fifth biggest steel producer in the world, with highest stock price, Corus.
The steel industry benefits from a privileged and strong financial condition and position, since the demand of steel is only increasing. As a result, producers are working well over their operative capacity. Every passing day, the steel industry is becoming more and more of a competitive sector. The major demand for steel comes from industries such as the automobile industry, construction industry, infrastructure industries, oil and gas industry, as well as the container industry.
In order to minimize production cost while maximizing production figures, the innovations in the steel industry are visible in the cutting edge technologies used for production, like the thin-slab casting, or the production of steel using electric furnace, vacuum degassing, etc. Globally, in 2004 the steel industry turned into a billion tons industry. This growth depends solely on the consumption of steel in the developing countries.

Maintaining a Cast Iron Tub
Cast iron bathtubs are great for historic beauty and elegance. They are perfect for people that have a period home with lots of details from past eras. So, it shouldn’t be any surprise that cast iron clawfoot tubs have re-emerged in bathroom trends. Cast iron baths are certainly dramatic pieces for the period bathroom.
Cast iron is well known for its lasting quality. The color of a fractured surface can be used to identify an alloy. White cast iron is named after its white surface when fractured due to its carbide impurities, which allow cracks to pass straight through. Grey cast iron is named after its grey fractured surface, which occurs because the graphitic flakes deflect a passing crack and initiate countless new cracks as the material breaks.
If the surface becomes dirty, use a general purpose cleaner that is water soluble, try not to use cream-based cleaners as they can cause build up. Glass cleaners work wonderful on bathtubs, use harsher cleaners like Formula 409 only when absolutely needed. Do not use steel wool while cleaning or any abrasive materials as they can ruin the finish. If you have a bathtub shower, remember to regularly use mildew stain remover. Make sure your shower head doesn't drip after it’s turned off as this can lead to rusting. From time to time you may notice rust buildup. Use a rust and iron stain remover or muriatic acid to get rid of rust.
Rinse thoroughly after cleaning. Any remaining cleaner can build up and reduce friction on slip-resistant surfaces. It is recommended to towel dry the tub after every bath to reduce rust occurrence. If the surface becomes dirty, use a general purpose cleaner that is water soluble and rinse thoroughly after cleaning. With these simple tips, it's easy to maintain a lovely and well-cared for cast iron bathtub.
